About us
Jeff McVean is a 3 time Olympic Equestrian rider who competed on the European circuit and was ranked in the top ten riders in the world throughout this time. On his return from competing on the European circuit, he managed the highly successful stud, Glen Oaks, who stood stallions such as Western Symphony, Phizam and Take Your Partner. This introduction to the Thoroughbred industry then led to starting up a pre-training and breaking business based in Matangi. Throughout this time we worked with horses such as St Reims, Danroad and Marble Halls. This then progressed onto Jeff taking out his trainers licence and becoming one of only four trainers in NZ history to win the Group One Classic double of The NZ Oaks and The NZ Derby with horses Jungle Rocket and Leica Guv.
Emma-Lee Browne was brought up from day one with horses being Jeff’s daughter. She started off with a very successful but short career in show jumping before turning to racehorses at an early age. Emma-Lee started off in the pre-training area before doing work with sale yearlings and also travelling to Singapore and Australia to further her experience with riding track work. In 2003 Emma-Lee joined Jeff in training partnership after working closely with him in the preparation of Leica Guv for an Australian campaign. Her first starter was with Leica Guv in the Group One Metropolitan in Sydney and the first winner for the new partnership was in the Group Two Counties Cup with the same horse.
In 2005 Emma-Lee married David Browne, who has a long history of being involved with horses. A successful Polo player who has played in both Australia and England he is also the grandson of the legendary jumps trainers and jockey Ken and Ann Browne. David and Emma-Lee work together in the yard, sharing the riding, with David doing much of the breaking in, as well as looking after the three resident stallions. David and Emma-Lee have two small girls, Chloe and Lucy.
